God be with you.
And with you.
It is so that God is with us as we gather in worship, in sacrament, in service, and now in a sacred meal.
We gather as jesus told us, as jesus showed us, gathering to find strength and joy, gathering to share peace and hope.
Among all the other ways we gather, at this moment we join in a feast, called by some “the feast of the world’s redemption,” a meal wherein community is born and covenant is kept.
We gather in the Spirit of Jesus, remembering his last dinner with his friends. On the cusp of a new season, he told them to pay attention.
Bread he broke, as his body would also be broken.
Wine he poured, as his blood would be spilled.
My body, my blood, broken and spilled for you.
Eat and drink, he said, and never forget that I am with you.
So we eat and drink to a life of creative purpose. The spirit breathes in us, breathes through us, and we are refreshed.
Let us pray:
In this bread, this wine, O God, heal us and make us yours again. Ignite again the fire of your love in our lives, and set us on your sacred path. Amen.
Post-Communion Prayer:
We give thanks, O God, that you have once again fed us at this table of grace. Keep us always in that grace and let us live each day in you. Amen.
